Q. How did you get involved in leadership, and what motivates you to continue?
My involvement in leadership began in the 1960s, when I was an assistant dean at Ohio University. The chairman of the management department, Dr. Paul Hersey, asked me if I would be interested in writing a textbook with him. That book became Management of Organizational Behavior. It introduced Situational Leadership®, a whole new way of looking at management. Now in its 10th edition, the book has been a bestseller in the field for over 40 years.
When I was on sabbatical in the late 1970s, I gave a speech—“Different Strokes for Different Folks”—at a Young Presidents Organization event. People were so excited about it that they insisted my wife, Margie, and I start our own management consulting company. We went from not knowing how to balance our own checkbook in 1979 to running a company that today has more than 300 employees and offices around the world.
In 1982, the book I wrote with Spencer Johnson, The One Minute Manager®, was published and went on to sell more than 13 million copies. I guess you could say that book was a trendsetter, because it was the first well-known business parable, a format that is still quite popular today.
What keeps me motivated to continue is that I believe the world is in desperate need of a different leadership role model. When you look at leaders around the world—whether they’re running departments or countries, businesses or religious institutions—you see too many people focusing on self-serving goals. We need a new leadership model that focuses not only on goal accomplishment, but also on the greater good.

Matrox monitors driver. I'm not sure, but if the problem is, that there aren't any good 3D cards available, thatwould be open source, then isn't it possible to arrangesome OPEN HARDWARE project, that will produce a nice,powerful OPEN AND DOCUMENTED 3D card. If the distro will ship in a packaged, paper/plastic/shiny/boxed form,then it shouldn't be difficult to include the open 3D videocard into the box???? Not to mention, vendors could beattempted to start producing the harware, as all the designwork will havebeen done by then and the card will have a nice user base.
I can absolutely confidently suggest two estonian highly skilled,trustworthy, companies: Artec Design(by the way, they use Debian in house) and Liewenthal Elecronics. I konow those companies because two of my friends have been working there. I have been to CeBIT2003 atHannover, Germany, and it seem's to me, that it's relly not a problem for any of the prementioned companies or almost any other elecronics company(Elcoteq?) to organize some volume production(let's say, 2000 units for a small vlume as a start, 200 000 units later?).
So, if hardware industry can't produce something, that's needed,THEY WILL HAVE COMPEDITION!!! Now, how would that be for some capitalism???

There are two downloads on that site, the “Iridium 9555 – USB and Modem Drivers” download is a zip file containing the driver files themselves which can be used with Device Manager’s “update drivers” function. (Save the download file, open WIndows Device Manager from the Windows search box, find the Iridium handset under “Ports”, right-click and select “Update Drivers” then browse to wherever you saved the driver files).

Right click on the device and select “Properties” to view driver information, select “Driver” tab at the top of the new window; you should be able to view the Driver Provider and Driver Version. FTDI is the driver provider for the optical to USB cable (IR189USB).
The original Iridium USB drivers for the 9555/9575 handsets were not compatible with Windows-10, resulting in a “blue screen” Windows crash whenever the USB port was opened. It took a long time for updated drivers to become available, in the meantime we created a work-around (details below) which is no longer needed. A CD that came with a recently-purchased phone will have the correct drivers, or you can download them from Iridium at this website: https://www.iridium.com/services/data.

In computing, booting (or booting up) is the initialization of a computerized system. The system can be a computer or a computer appliance. The booting process can be “hard”, after electrical power to the CPU is switched from off to on (in order to diagnose particular hardware errors), or “soft”, when thosepower-on self-tests (POST) can be avoided. Soft booting can be initiated by hardware such as a button press, or by software command. Booting is complete when the normal, operative, runtime environment is attained.
A boot loader is a computer program that loads an operating system or some other system software for the computer after completion of the power-on self-tests; it is the loader for the operating system itself, which has its own loader for loading ordinary user programs and libraries. Within the hard reboot process, it runs after completion of the self-tests, then loads and runs the software. A boot loader is loaded into main memory from persistent memory, such as a hard disk drive or, in some older computers, from a medium such as punched cards, punched tape, or magnetic tape. The boot loader then loads and executes the processes that finalize the boot. Like POST processes, the boot loader code comes from a “hard-wired” and persistent location; if that location is too limited for some reason, that primary boot loader calls a second-stage boot loader or a secondary program loader.
On modern general purpose computers, the boot up process can take tens of seconds, and typically involves performing a power-on self-test, locating and initializing peripheral devices, and then finding, loading and starting an operating system. The process of hibernating or sleeping does not involve booting. Minimally, some embedded systems do not require a noticeable boot sequence to begin functioning and when turned on may simply run operational programs that are stored in ROM. All computing systems are state machines, and a reboot may be the only method to return to a designated zero-state from an unintended, locked state.
Boot is short for bootstrapor bootstrap load and derives from the phrase to pull oneself up by one’s bootstraps. The usage calls attention to the requirement that, if most software is loaded onto a computer by other software already running on the computer, some mechanism must exist to load the initial software onto the computer.Early computers used a variety of ad-hoc methods to get a small program into memory to solve this problem. The invention ofread-only memory (ROM) of various types solved this paradox by allowing computers to be shipped with a start up program that could not be erased. Growth in the capacity of ROM has allowed ever more elaborate start up procedures to be implemented.
History
There are many different methods available to load a short initial program into a computer. These methods reach from simple, physical input to removable media that can hold more complex programs.
Pre integrated-circuit-ROM examples
Early computers
Early computers in the 1940s and 1950s were one-of-a-kind engineering efforts that could take weeks to program and program loading was one of many problems that had to be solved. An early computer, ENIAC, had no “program” stored in memory, but was set up for each problem by a configuration of interconnecting cables. Bootstrapping did not apply to ENIAC, whose hardware configuration was ready for solving problems as soon as power was applied.
In 1960, the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System Display Information Processor (DIP) in Colorado Springs—before the NORAD facility was built in the underground Cheyenne Mountain Complex—ran only one program, which carried its own startup code. The program was stored as a bit image on a continuously running magnetic drum, and loaded in a fraction of a second. Core memory was probably cleared manually via the maintenance console, and startup from when power was fully up was very fast, only a few seconds. In its general design, the DIP compared roughly with aDEC PDP-8.
First commercial computers
The first programmable computers for commercial sale, such as the UNIVAC I and the IBM 701included features to make their operation simpler. They typically included instructions that performed a complete input or output operation. The same hardware logic could be used to load the contents of a punch card or other input media that contained a bootstrap program by pressing a single button. This booting concept was called a variety of names for IBMcomputers of the 1950s and early 1960s, but IBM used the term “Initial Program Load” with the IBM 7030 Stretch and later used it for their mainframe lines, starting with the System/360 in 1964.

The IBM 701 computer (1952–1956) had a “Load” button that initiated reading of the first 36-bit word into main memory from a punched card in a card reader, a magnetic tape in a tape drive, or a magnetic drum unit, depending on the position of the Load Selector switch. The left 18-bit half-word was then executed as an instruction, which usually read additional words into memory.The loaded boot program was then executed, which, in turn, loaded a larger program from that medium into memory without further help from the human operator. The term “boot” has been used in this sense since at least 1958.

Other IBM computers of that era had similar features. For example, the IBM 1401 system (c. 1958) used a card reader to load a program from a punched card. The 80 characters stored in the punched card were read into memory locations 001 to 080, then the computer would branch to memory location 001 to read its first stored instruction. This instruction was always the same: move the information in these first 80 memory locations to an assembly area where the information in punched cards 2, 3, 4, and so on, could be combined to form the stored program. Once this information was moved to the assembly area, the machine would branch to an instruction in location 080 (read a card) and the next card would be read and its information processed.
Another example was the IBM 650 (1953), a decimal machine, which had a group of ten 10-position switches on its operator panel which were addressable as a memory word (address 8000) and could be executed as an instruction. Thus setting the switches to 7004000400 and pressing the appropriate button would read the first card in the card reader into memory (op code 70), starting at address 400 and then jump to 400 to begin executing the program on that card.
IBM’s competitors also offered single button program load.
The CDC 6600 (c. 1964) had a dead start panel with 144 toggle switches; the dead start switch entered 12 words from the toggle switches to the memory of peripheral processor (PP) 0 and initiated the load sequence. PP 0 loaded the necessary code into its own memory and then initialized the other PPs.

Unlike many other defense attorneys I am NOT a former Assistant District Attorney nor a former police officer. I don’t judge our clients, I just defend them. In fact, I came to the practice of law as a second career. Prior to becoming an attorney I spent 20 years as a business executive, eventually running a large subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company. While those years in private business were challenging and rewarding, there came time that I wanted to do something different and more directly related to assisting other people. Sample Criminal Cases-2013/2014
Case #1 - Felony Drug Possession
Client charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, a 'D Felony.' Client was exposed to as much as 7 years incarceration in state prison and 5 years post release supervision.
After investigating the facts we concluded that charges against our client were not supported by facts that justified a felony charge based upon the specific substance involved. Multiple discussions with the District Attorney's Office resulted in the charges being reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. Further negotiations with the DA's office resulted in a plea agreement that reduced the charge to a non-criminal offense. Client pled guilty and was sentenced to a small fine.
Case #2 - Felony DWI
Client charged with felony DWI following an accident and exposed to 1-4 years incarceration and/or 5 years probation. Charge was based on a prior conviction 2 years earlier in another state. A careful examination of the out-of-state charge convinced us that the law in that state was not the equivalent of the law in NYS and, therefore didn't amount to a 'predicate' offense that would trigger a felony DWI charge. Based on extensive case research we provided to the District Attorney's office they eventually agreed that they would not be able to sustain a felony DWI indictment. The charge was reduced to a misdmeanor.
Case #3 - DWI & Refusal Revocation
Client was charged with DWI and refusing a breath test following a stop at a 'DWI Checkpoint.' Cross examination of the arresting officer at the refusal hearing produced clear evidence that the checkpoint had not been conducted in a constitutional manner. Based upon the officer's testimony at the hearing we made a motion in criminal court to suppress all the evidence against our client. The court granted that motion and the DWI charge was dismissed.
At the NYS-DMV refusal hearing the DMV judge found that our client had refused a breath test and revoked his driver's license for 1 year. We immediately obtained a 'stay' of the revocation and appealed the finding of the DMV judge to the DMV appeals unit. Our appeal was denied and client's revocation was reinstated. We immediately filed an action in County Supreme Court to reverse that finding. Upon hearing the facts of the matter the Supreme Court issued an immediate and permanent order restoring our client's license.

Case #4 - Felony Forged Gov't Document
Client charged with possessing a forged government document, a 'D Felony.' Extensive negotiations with the DA's office resulted in the charge being reduced to a non-criminal offense and client paid a small fine.
Case #5 - Felony Assault & Grand Larceny
Client charged with multiple felonies including Assault in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Grand Larceny, along with 2 counts of DWI. Following investigation and interviewing witnesses we were able to establish that the client had been drugged by a companion while out at a bar. All felonies were eventually reduced to misdemeanors and clent entered a plea to a single misdemeanor, all other charges were dismissed.
Case #6 - Driving While Ability Impaired
Client charged with Driving While Ability Impaired when stopped by the police in the parking lot of her apartment building. Following a detailed examination of the facts surrounding the stop we convinced the District Attorney's Office that the case wasn't prosecutable. The DA eventually agreed to reduce the charge to a parking violation with no impact on our client's license.
Case #7 - Felony Welfare Fraud
Client charged with felony welfare fraud. Extensive research into the case revealed that the facts did not warrant a felony charge. Multiple meetings with the District Attorney's office eventually resulted in the charge being reduced to petty larceny. Client agreed to pay be disputed funds and was conditionally discharged by the court.
Case #8 - Felony Possession of a Weapon
An out-of-state commercial truck driver charged with felony possession of a weapon, a Class D felony, for having a loaded pistol in the cab of his truck and was exposed to significant state prison time.
After investigating the facts surrounding our client's arrest and discovery of his pistol we were convinced that the evidence against our client should be suppressed. After multiple discussions with the District Attorney's office we were able to get the charge reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor and, eventually, negotiate a plea to a non-criminal offense with a small fine.
Case #9 - DWI with .15% Breath Test
Client stopped after failing to signal a turn coming out of a bar parking lot.After arrest client blew .15% on chemical breath test.Charged with 2 counts of DWI and traffic violation.After a hearing motion was made to suppress all evidence against client based on the fact that failing to signal exiting a parking lot is NOT a violation of NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law and, therefore the stop of client's vehicle was unconstitutional.Court agreed with our position and granted motion to suppress all evidence and ALL charges were dismissed.
Client #10 - Felony Criminal Mischief
Client was an out-of-state resident who had a felony charge from when he was a teenager. Given that there was an existing felony warrant, Client could not risk returning to New YorkState.
After researching the procedural history of the case, we discovered that the State failed to take any action on the case in the entire 25 year period. Several conversations with District Attorney's Office later, the matter was

Driver Installation for Altera USB-Blaster
Plug the USB-Blaster download cable into your PC. The Found New Hardware dialog box appears.
Select Locate and install driver software (recommended).
Select Don't search online.
When you are prompted to Insert the disc that came with your USB-Blaster, select I don’t have the disc. Show me other options.
Select Browse my computer for driver software (advanced) when you see the Windows couldn’t find driver software for your device dialog box.
Click Browse, and browse to the<Path to Quartus Prime installation>driversusb-blaster directory.
Note: Do not select the x32 or x64 directories.
Click OK.
Select the Include subfolders option, and click Next.
If you are prompted Windows can’t verify the publisher of this driver software, select Install this driver software anyway in the Window Security dialog box. The installation wizard guides you through the installation process.
